The Rolex Day-Date ref. 18048 was produced from 1978 to approximately 1990, succeeding the ref. 1803 and marking a pivotal evolution in the Day-Date line. Its most significant technical advancement was the adoption of a sapphire crystal in place of the earlier acrylic, improving scratch resistance and legibility substantially. The case measured 36mm in diameter — the classic Day-Date proportion — and housed the Rolex caliber 3055, a self-winding movement with a day-of-week disc that advances instantaneously at midnight. The movement beats at 19,800 vph and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The ref. 18048 was offered exclusively in precious metals: 18K yellow gold, white gold, and platinum, with no steel option — a deliberate positioning that reinforced the Day-Date's status as Rolex's flagship dress watch.

For Tupac, luxury watches were a recurring motif. Born Lesane Parish Crooks in East Harlem and raised in Baltimore and Oakland, Shakur rose to become one of the defining voices of West Coast hip-hop. By 1994, with albums like '2Pacalypse Now' and 'Strictly 4 My D.U.M.B.A.Z.Z.' behind him, he was at the epicenter of the culture — and the Day-Date ref. 18048 on his wrist signaled arrival in the clearest possible horological language.

Provenance tied to figures of Shakur's stature adds an entirely separate layer of cultural and monetary value.
