Introduction to Dani Clos

Dani Clos is a Spanish professional racing driver whose career has taken him through some of motorsport's most demanding categories. A graduate of the GP2 Series — now Formula 2 — Clos competed at the highest levels of single-seater racing before transitioning into endurance competition, including stints in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the European Le Mans Series. Born in Barcelona, he has built a reputation as a technically precise driver with a deep understanding of machinery, and he remains an active figure in the international motorsport scene.

The Dani Clos watch collection, as far as Watch Paparazzi has been able to document, leans toward the technically ambitious end of the custom watch market. The one confirmed sighting places him wearing an Artisans De Genève Pearl Project — a bespoke reworking of a stainless steel Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5711. Geneva-based independent atelier Artisans De Genève, founded by Florian Güllert, specialises in taking donor watches from established maisons and rebuilding them with entirely new case components, dial architectures, and finishing approaches. On the Pearl Project, the standard integrated bezel is replaced with a sculpted forged carbon unit, and the dial is removed entirely to expose the movement beneath, framed by skeletonised bridges. It is one of the atelier's more technically involved commissions.

The choice of an Artisans De Genève piece is consistent with the tastes of someone who works closely with high-performance engineering day to day. Rather than a straightforward luxury purchase, the Pearl Project represents a considered modification of an already scarce reference — the Nautilus 5711 production of which Patek Philippe discontinued in 2021 — making Clos's example both mechanically unusual and increasingly difficult to replicate.

Artisans De Genève's Pearl Project takes one of horology's most coveted references — the Patek Philippe Nautilus — and strips it to its mechanical soul, grafting a forged carbon bezel and a fully skeletonized dial finished with rose-gold-tinted bridges over the base caliber. The result is a one-of-a-kind atelier commission that sits at the intersection of haute horlogerie and bespoke customization. Spanish racing driver Dani Clos was caught wearing the piece courtside at an Inter Miami CF match, an appropriately high-profile setting for a watch that very few will ever own.
