The Rolex Ref. 6062 was introduced in 1950 and represented the pinnacle of Rolex's ambitions in complications during the postwar era. It combines a triple calendar — displaying date, day, and month — with a moonphase indicator, all housed beneath a dial that, in its most desirable configuration, features star-set diamond hour markers in 18K yellow gold. The movement powering it is the calibre A296, a 17-jewel manual-wind base ébauche sourced from Aegler, Rolex's movement supplier at the time. The case measures approximately 36mm, modest by today's standards but commanding in presence thanks to the richly detailed dial architecture.

Production of the Ref. 6062 was extremely limited and spanned only a few years into the early 1950s. Rolex produced the reference in three metals — stainless steel, pink gold, and yellow gold — with the yellow gold star-set diamond dial variant sitting firmly at the apex of desirability. Fewer than a handful of confirmed examples in this exact configuration are known to exist, making each auction appearance a significant event in the vintage Rolex world. A comparable example hammered at Phillips in 2018 for £516,000, approximately $676,000 at the time, a figure that underscores just how seriously serious collectors treat this reference.

Nicolas Cage has long been documented as an obsessive collector across multiple categories — comics, castles, exotic animals, and yes, watches. Wearing a Ref. 6062 rather than keeping it behind glass speaks to a genuine engagement with horology rather than mere asset accumulation. It is exactly the kind of choice a knowledgeable collector makes.

On today's market, an 18K yellow gold Rolex Ref. 6062 with star-set numerals and moonphase in strong condition would be expected to achieve well in excess of $700,000 at auction, with private treaty sales potentially exceeding that figure. No current retail equivalent exists — this is purely a vintage market proposition, and supply is, by any measure, essentially exhausted.
