The setting, high-profile and camera-saturated by nature, made the sighting impossible to miss for collectors monitoring the secondary market.

Patek Philippe introduced the Ref. 5976/1G in 2016 to mark four decades since Gerald Genta's iconic porthole-inspired Nautilus design first debuted at the 1976 Basel Fair. The case measures 44.6mm — larger than the standard Nautilus — in polished and satin-finished 18kt white gold, and the integrated bracelet follows the same horizontally embossed dial motif that defines the line. Factory-set with nine baguette-cut diamonds flanking the dial and three princess-cut diamonds serving as hour markers at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock, the piece represents Patek's in-house gem-setting craft at its most refined. Powering it is the Caliber CH 28-520 C, a lateral-clutch column-wheel flyback chronograph movement with a 55-hour power reserve, visible through a sapphire caseback.

From a collector standpoint, the 5976/1G occupies rare air. Strictly limited to 1,300 examples globally, the reference sold out immediately upon release and has never appeared in standard retail channels since. The combination of the anniversary provenance, the flyback chronograph complication, the white gold diamond configuration, and the hard production cap makes this among the most consequential modern Nautilus references — arguably more sought after than the standard 5976/1J yellow gold variant issued alongside it.

Drake has built one of the most documented watch collections in music, with confirmed acquisitions spanning Royal Oak Tourbillons, bespoke Richard Mille pieces, and multiple Patek references. Choosing to wear the 5976/1G courtside — rather than keeping it secured — signals genuine affinity for the piece rather than performative flex.

On the current grey market, the Ref. 5976/1G trades at approximately four times its original list price, reflecting sustained collector demand and near-zero supply. With no reissue expected and the 40th anniversary context permanently locked in time, the trajectory for this reference shows no sign of reversing.
