The sighting puts one of sport's greatest icons alongside a watch that is equally uncompromising in its ambition.

The UR-100V platform is itself a technical exercise in unconventional time display. The satellite complication — a system of three revolving arms, each carrying three time capsules — sweeps across a linear minute scale before disappearing beneath the case architecture. Hours are read via a window, minutes via the travelling capsule. The 'Time and Culture I' edition builds on this base by adding a copper-bronze PVD case treatment and, most remarkably, a dome cover over the movement's upper plate that has been micro-engraved with a reproduction of the Aztec Sun Stone using a drill bit measuring just 0.05 mm. The level of detail is extraordinary and required entirely bespoke tooling. The green fabric strap — matching the green mineral-tinted sapphire and dial accents — grounds the piece visually without softening its aggression.

Urwerk, founded in 1997 by Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, has built its reputation on exactly this kind of left-field horological thinking. The UR-100V itself was introduced in 2019 and carries an additional complication that displays Earth's rotation speed (kilometres travelled in 20 minutes) and the distance the Earth covers around the Sun in the same period — a philosophical extension of the brand's 'what is time?' ethos. The 'Time and Culture' series layers cultural archaeology onto that framework.

For Jordan, watches are a documented obsession. His collection spans Patek Philippe perpetual calendars to Richard Mille tonneau cases, but the Urwerk represents a different kind of collector instinct — an interest in micro-independent pieces with conceptual depth rather than pure prestige signalling. Owning one of 20 examples of the 'Time and Culture I' is as much curatorial statement as horological investment.

On the secondary market, Urwerk limited collaborations with SJX have historically commanded meaningful premiums over retail. With only 20 examples produced, the 'Time and Culture I' is effectively impossible to acquire through normal channels, making any grey-market appearance a significant event. Retail pricing for the UR-100V range typically starts above $50,000; this edition, given its scarcity and craft premium, trades substantially higher.
