Who & what: Stainless Steel Rolex Daytona Ref. 116500LN Black Ceramic Bezel Black Dial Spotted on Giannis Antetokounmpo

When the Milwaukee Bucks made their White House visit, cameras naturally gravitated toward Giannis Antetokounmpo — and sharp-eyed watch spotters caught something worth noting on his wrist: the stainless steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 116500LN in its all-black configuration, featuring the brand's Cerachrom ceramic bezel and matching black dial.

The Rolex Daytona ref. 116500LN arrived in 2016 as a landmark update to the Daytona lineage, introducing a black or white Cerachrom ceramic bezel for the first time in the model's history. Inside sits the Rolex Calibre 4130, a manufacture chronograph movement developed entirely in-house and widely regarded as one of the finest column-wheel, vertical-clutch chronograph ebauches in production today. It offers a 72-hour power reserve, operates at 28,800 vph, and is certified as a Superlative Chronometer to ±2 seconds per day. The 40mm oyster case in Oystersteel is water resistant to 100 metres.

The black-dial, black-bezel variant of the 116500LN — sometimes called the "full black" or "dark" Daytona — holds particular appeal among collectors for its visual coherence and relative scarcity compared to the white-dial version. Since its release, the 116500LN has become perhaps the single most discussed stainless sport watch in the secondary market, with authorised dealer waitlists stretching years and grey-market premiums that have remained stubbornly above retail since day one. The reference has come to define the era of unobtanium Rolex.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, the two-time NBA MVP and 2021 NBA champion known universally as "The Greek Freak," has demonstrated consistently refined taste in watches. Choosing the Daytona 116500LN over flashier bejewelled alternatives says something deliberate — this is a piece chosen for its horological credibility as much as its status.

At official Rolex list price the 116500LN retails around $14,870, a figure that bears little relationship to market reality. Grey-market values currently sit near $33,900 — more than double retail — reflecting demand that Rolex production has never come close to satisfying. For a player of Giannis's stature, the watch is almost understated. That, arguably, is the point.
