Designed by Gérard Genta and introduced in 1976, the Nautilus pioneered the concept of the luxury sports watch in steel. The relationship between Patek Philippe and Tiffany dates to 1851, when Charles Lewis Tiffany and Antoine Norbert de Patek met and forged a commercial partnership that endures today — making Tiffany the oldest American retail partner in Patek's network and the only retailer permitted to stamp its name on the dial alongside Patek's own. For the final production run of the 5711/1A, Patek released just 170 pieces with this dual signature on the olive green dial, exclusively through Tiffany. The olive green dial itself was a late-era colorway that had already generated substantial grey-market fever before the Tiffany co-sign elevated it to near-mythological status.

Mayer's horological credentials are well established — he has spoken publicly about Patek Philippe references, vintage Rolex, and independent watchmakers with a depth of knowledge that earns him genuine respect in collector circles. Owning a 5711/1A-014 Tiffany edition is less a flex than a logical endpoint for someone who has followed the Nautilus story this closely.

On the secondary market, examples of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-014 Tiffany & Co. edition have traded between $500,000 and several million dollars depending on provenance and condition, with the Phillips charity auction piece setting the high-water mark at $6.5 million. No official retail price was ever published in the conventional sense; the watches were allocated exclusively to Tiffany clients. As a closed chapter in Patek production history, the reference will only appreciate in collector significance over time.
