Waiting lists at authorised dealers routinely stretch years, cementing its status as perhaps the defining modern Rolex sports reference.

Armstrong, who competed at the highest levels of professional cycling through the 1990s and 2000s, has maintained a prominent public profile well beyond his competitive years. His choice of the ceramic Daytona is consistent with a watch that appeals to high-performance athletes and competitive personalities drawn to the Daytona's motorsport heritage — the model was originally developed in partnership with the Daytona International Speedway in the early 1960s.
