Wally Funk, the 82-year-old aviator and astronaut candidate from the Mercury 13 project, made history as she participated in Blue Origin's first manned spaceflight on July 20th, 2021. Wally became the oldest person to go to space and the only woman from the Mercury 13 project to fulfill her dream. Alongside Jeff Bezos, Mark Bezos, and Oliver Daemen, she flew aboard the New Shepard rocket ship, designed for suborbital space tourism.

During the flight, Omega commemorated the special occasion by donating a limited edition Speedmaster Moonwatch to each crew member. The chronograph watch features a stainless steel case and a black dial with a tachymeter scale. On the case back, Omega engraved the name of the crew member, the flight number, and the Blue Origin feather, a symbol representing the New Shepard rocket ship. The watch also features a Velcro strap with the feather logo embossed on it.

The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch has a rich history with space exploration, having been the first watch worn on the Moon by NASA astronauts during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. The watch has since become an iconic timepiece, recognized for its durability and accuracy in extreme conditions.

Wally Funk's accomplishment serves as a reminder that age is just a number, and dreams can be achieved at any stage of life. Her journey to space, coupled with the symbolic gift of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, pays homage to the past while also encouraging future generations to push the boundaries of what's possible. The limited edition Speedmaster Moonwatch is the perfect memento of this historic moment in space history. The watch is available for purchase with the reference number 310.32.42.50.01.001.
