That dimension made it, upon release, the world's thinnest automatic perpetual calendar, a record it still holds. The movement displays day, date, month, and moon phase without requiring manual correction until 2100, all orchestrated through a traditional perpetual calendar mechanism compressed to an almost implausible depth. The oscillating weight is itself skeletonised to keep the profile honest.

Presented as prototype RD#2 at the 2018 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, the watch generated immediate collector interest precisely because AP chose to productionise it rather than leave the achievement as a showcase exercise. The case material combination — Grade 5 titanium for the main body, platinum for the bezel — strikes a utilitarian-luxurious balance entirely consistent with the Royal Oak's original Gerald Genta brief. Notably, AP abandoned the signature Grande Tapisserie guilloche dial here in favour of a satin-brushed blue surface, a deliberate choice that improves date and complication readability without compromising the watch's identity.

Bloom, whose watch choices have consistently leaned toward high-complication, understated pieces rather than overt status signalling, wore the 26586IP in one of the most photographed charitable contexts on the European social calendar.
