Actor Karen Gillan spotted wearing a Casio

In the 2021 Netflix action film Gunpowder Milkshake, Karen Gillan's assassin character Sam makes her wardrobe choices count — and whoever handled props and costuming clearly had good taste in understated timepieces. On her wrist sits a Casio B640WD-1A, a quietly capable digital watch that punches well above its modest price point in terms of design coherence and wearability.

The B640WD-1A is part of Casio's B640 series, a direct spiritual successor to the iconic F-91W lineage, but dressed up in a full stainless steel case and integrated bracelet. The watch measures approximately 33.5mm wide and just 8.9mm thick — genuinely slim by any standard. It runs on a Casio module with digital display, offering time, date, stopwatch, alarm, and an hourly time signal. Battery life is rated at approximately three years. The WD designation indicates 50-metre water resistance, a step up from the basic splash resistance of some siblings in the lineup.

Collectors and watch enthusiasts have long appreciated the B640 series as a legitimate gateway into the Casio digital ecosystem — it offers the retrocomputing aesthetic that drives demand for the F-91W, but adds the material seriousness of a steel bracelet. The result is a watch that reads as intentional rather than disposable, which makes it a recurring choice for film and television costume departments seeking something low-key but visually coherent on camera.

Karen Gillan, best known as Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, delivered a physically demanding lead performance in Gunpowder Milkshake — a stylized, hyper-choreographed film that earned mixed critical notices but found a solid audience. The B640WD-1A suits the character's functional wardrobe sensibility perfectly: no-nonsense, durable, and impossible to misread in a dark corridor.

At an official retail price of around $35–40, the B640WD-1A represents extraordinary value and is one of those rare watches where grey-market pricing rarely diverges meaningfully from retail. It remains widely available through authorized channels.
