Football manager Frank Lampard spotted wearing Patek Philippe

Frank Lampard, one of England's most decorated midfielders and now an established figure in football management, was recently spotted wearing a Patek Philippe 5370P — the manufacture's split-seconds chronograph in platinum. It is not the kind of watch you wear to make a statement about wealth; it is the kind of watch you wear when you actually know what's on your wrist.

The Patek Philippe reference 5370P was introduced at Baselworld 2015 and represented a landmark moment for the Geneva maison. The watch is powered by calibre CHR 29-535 PS, an entirely in-house movement that Patek Philippe spent the better part of a decade engineering. The defining technical achievement is its split-seconds — or rattrapante — mechanism, which operates without a traditional column wheel, instead using a proprietary braking system that Patek patents as its own. The movement runs at 28,800 vph, offers a power reserve of approximately 65 hours, and is finished to the level collectors expect from a Patek grand complication: bevelled bridges, Côtes de Genève, and hand-chamfered edges throughout.

The case is crafted in 950 platinum and measures 41mm, with a slate-grey dial that lets the twin chronograph pushers and split-seconds hand arrangement do the visual work. A sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the movement in full. Production numbers are tightly controlled, and the 5370P has never been a watch you could simply walk into a boutique and purchase.

For collectors, the 5370P occupies a precise and respected position. It is not a perpetual calendar, not a minute repeater — it is a tool complication, a chronograph built for function first, and the rattrapante function elevates it above the already accomplished ref. 5170. Allocation is extremely limited, which keeps secondary-market premiums significant and sustained.

Lampard's choice reflects a collector's sensibility rather than celebrity impulse buying. His watch history suggests genuine interest in serious horology. The 5370P retails at approximately £175,000 in the UK, with grey-market values consistently trading above list given constrained supply.
