About Sigourney Weaver’s watch collection

Sigourney Weaver is one of the most respected actors of her generation, a three-time Academy Award nominee whose career spans five decades of film and theatre. Born Susan Alexandra Weaver in New York City in 1949, she studied drama at Yale School of Drama before breaking through in Ridley Scott's Alien in 1979. The role of Ellen Ripley defined her early career and remains one of the most celebrated performances in science fiction cinema. She followed it with back-to-back Oscar nominations for Aliens (1986) and Gorillas in the Mist (1988) in the same year — a feat matched by very few actors in Hollywood history. Her range extends well beyond action and sci-fi, taking in comedies, dramas, and prestige television.

The Sigourney Weaver watch collection is compact but carries genuine collector weight. The most talked-about piece is the Seiko Giugiaro Design Chronograph 100, reference 7A28-7000, worn on screen throughout Aliens and now referred to simply as 'the Ripley' in watch collecting circles. Seiko released the 7A28-7000 in 1983, and its angular, industrial design — penned by Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, responsible for the DeLorean DMC-12 — made it a natural fit for a film production designer building a credible near-future military aesthetic. Beyond the screen, Weaver has also been spotted wearing Casio, the Japanese quartz brand whose G-Shock and standard digital lines have long been favoured for their practicality and durability rather than luxury signalling.

What stands out about the watches associated with Weaver is that neither brand trades in prestige in the traditional sense. Casio and Seiko are workhorses — precise, unpretentious, and built to be worn. The 7A28-7000 in particular has appreciated sharply in the vintage market since the early 2010s, with demand driven almost entirely by its connection to the Ripley character. Examples in good condition with original bracelet now regularly change hands for several hundred dollars, a significant premium over original retail.
