About Fredrik Skavland’s watch collection
Fredrik Skavland is one of Scandinavia's most recognisable television personalities. Born in Norway in 1975, he rose to prominence as the host of 'Skavlan,' a long-running late-night talk show that became a pan-European phenomenon, broadcast simultaneously in Norway and Sweden and attracting guests ranging from world leaders to Hollywood actors. The programme ran for over two decades and earned Skavland a reputation as one of the most skilled interviewers in European broadcasting. Beyond the talk show format, he has worked extensively across Norwegian television as a presenter, journalist, and producer, cementing his place as a genuine institution in Nordic media.
When it comes to watches, Skavland has shown a preference for precision and heritage over flash. The Fredrik Skavland watch collection, as far as our sightings database reflects, gravitates toward Patek Philippe — the Geneva manufacture widely regarded as the pinnacle of traditional watchmaking. He has been spotted wearing a Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 3700, the original Nautilus model introduced at the Basel Watch Fair in 1976. Designed by Gérald Genta — the same mind behind the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak — the ref. 3700 was a radical proposition at the time: a luxury sports watch in stainless steel, with an integrated bracelet and an octagonal bezel inspired by a ship's porthole. That Skavland would choose this particular reference, rather than a more contemporary Nautilus variant, suggests a collector's sensibility rather than a casual interest in the brand.
The ref. 3700 was produced from 1976 until around 1990, and surviving examples in good condition are increasingly difficult to source. Wearing one in 2024 signals genuine engagement with watch history. For Skavland, a man who has spent his career conducting conversations that reward depth and preparation, it is perhaps a fitting choice.
