Introduction to George Daniels
George Daniels was a world-renowned watchmaker and inventor who dedicated his life to creating mechanical timepieces of unparalleled precision and beauty. He revolutionized the craft of watchmaking with his inventive designs and patented innovations, earning him the honor of being widely regarded as the greatest independent watchmaker of the 20th century. Daniels was not only a master watchmaker, but also a passionate collector of remarkable timepieces. His impressive collection includes rare examples from his own brand, George Daniels, which he founded in 1969, as well as exquisite pieces from iconic Swiss watchmakers like Patek Philippe. The George Daniels watch collection offers a glimpse into the mind of one of the greatest horological minds of our time and serves as a testament to his lifelong dedication to the art of watchmaking.
George Daniels Spotted Wearing a One-of-a-Kind Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3800 Fitted with His Co-Axial Escapement
Inserted 02/12/2022
The Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 3800 on George Daniels' wrist is almost certainly the first wristwatch ever to house a co-axial escapement — the friction-reducing mechanism Daniels invented in 1974 and spent years trying to convince the Swiss industry to adopt. Daniels modified this very Nautilus at Patek Philippe's request, effectively creating a unique horological document. The ref. 3800, Gerald Genta's smaller-cased evolution of the original 3700, becomes here far more than a luxury sports watch: it is a working manifesto.
George Daniels Spotted Wearing His Own Hand-Made Flip-Case Tourbillon Co-Axial Wristwatch
Inserted 02/12/2022
One of only two wristwatches ever made entirely by George Daniels' own hands, this yellow gold flip-case masterpiece houses the co-axial escapement he invented — the first horological advance of genuine significance in over 250 years. At the press of a button, the case physically flips to reveal a second dial displaying the calendar and tourbillon. Daniels is seen here wearing it on his own wrist: arguably the most intimate watch photograph in the entire canon of horology.
