Politician Hun Sen spotted wearing Patek Philippe

Hun Sen, Cambodia's long-serving Prime Minister, was recently spotted wearing what is unquestionably one of the most complex wristwatches ever produced: the Patek Philippe GrandMaster Chime Reference 6300G in 18-karat white gold, featuring the striking 'Blue' dial configuration. The sighting places a watch more commonly seen in the hushed rooms of Geneva auction houses firmly onto the wrist of a sitting head of government.

The GrandMaster Chime 6300G was conceived to celebrate Patek Philippe's 175th anniversary in 2014 and represents the absolute summit of the manufacture's complications department. Powering it is the calibre GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM — a hand-wound movement comprising 1,366 components across 20 complications, among them a grand sonnerie, a small sonnerie, a minute repeater, a perpetual calendar, and a second time zone. The case itself is reversible via a patented winding crown mechanism, offering two independent dials: one for the acoustic complications, one serving as a classic perpetual calendar display. Both dials receive Patek Philippe's full decorative treatment.

The 'Blue' version of the 6300G has become among the most coveted references in the GrandMaster Chime family. The rich blue grand feu cloisonné enamel aesthetic on one side, paired with a blue-toned subsidiary dial arrangement on the reverse, distinguishes it visually from the original seal-brown and ivory references produced for the anniversary edition. Collector reception has been categorical: few production timepieces generate the same level of institutional reverence.

Hun Sen has led Cambodia since 1985, making him one of the world's longest-serving national leaders. His appearance wearing the 6300G is notable not merely for the watch's price point but for what it signals about taste: this is not a watch purchased for brand recognition alone. The GrandMaster Chime demands a degree of horological literacy from its owner simply to operate correctly.

On the open market, the Reference 6300G trades at a significant premium to its already extraordinary retail price. Given the extreme scarcity of production — Patek Philippe has never disclosed exact output numbers, though estimates suggest single-digit annual quantities — grey-market transactions are rare and individually negotiated.
