The combination of an in-house flyback chronograph with integrated bracelet construction in a sports watch remains rare at any price point, making the 5980R a legitimate horological achievement rather than a badge piece.

Dembele, who has represented FC Barcelona and the French national team at the highest level, is no stranger to fine watches — footballers of his generation treat serious horology as a considered extension of personal style. His choice of the 5980R in rose gold, rather than the more conspicuous stainless-steel version, suggests a collector's sensibility.

The Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980R carried a UK list price of approximately £36,000 before Patek Philippe discontinued the reference in favour of updated references.
