Who & what: Yellow Gold Rolex Perpetual Calendar Moonphase Reference 6062 with Full Calendar Dial

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg was recently spotted during a podcast interview wearing a yellow gold Rolex Reference 6062, one of the manufacture's most historically significant early complicated wristwatches. The 36mm case and brown leather strap were clearly visible on his wrist, paired with a brown polo shirt in a casual studio setting. The appearance adds another chapter to Zuckerberg's well-documented watch collecting history, which has featured pieces ranging from contemporary sports watches to significant vintage references.

The Rolex 6062 marked a watershed moment in the brand's development. Introduced in 1950 and produced through 1953, the reference was engineered around Rolex's proprietary calendar complication, combining a date window, day-of-week display, month window, and moon phase subdial—all within the sealed Oyster case architecture. The movement is based on the caliber 1065, a robust manual-wind mechanism with a 42-hour power reserve. The case diameter of 36mm was deliberately restrained compared to its predecessor, the celebrated "Padellone" Reference 8171, which housed the same complications but in a larger format and without the Oyster waterproofing. The dial features applied indices, hands in dauphine style, and a subdial at 6 o'clock dedicated to lunar phase display. Water resistance reaches 50 meters—significant for a 1950s calendar watch and made possible by the Oyster case design.

Production numbers render the 6062 exceptionally rare in the collector market. Rolex manufactured fewer than 1,000 examples across yellow gold, rose gold, and stainless steel variants during the watch's three-year production run. Yellow gold versions are particularly scarce, commanding premiums in both auction houses and specialized dealers. The 6062 occupies a unique position between Rolex's sports tool watches and its dress complications, and it predates the modern Perpetual Calendar by more than two decades. No later Rolex perpetual calendar would achieve the same technical simplicity or aesthetic restraint, making 6062 examples instantly recognizable to horologically literate collectors.

Zuckerberg has cultivated a reputation for vintage Rolex appreciation, and the 6062 signals serious collecting depth. The yellow gold variant in particular suggests access to specialized dealers or private sales channels, as examples rarely surface on the open market. The reference commands substantial valuations reflecting its scarcity and complications pedigree.

Current estimates for yellow gold examples in sound condition range from $180,000 to $250,000 in the grey market, with exceptional dial variants or provenance commanding higher premiums. Stainless steel examples, when available, typically realize $120,000–$180,000. The 6062 has appreciated consistently over the past decade as collector interest in early Rolex complications has intensified, and waitlists at established dealers are effectively non-existent—acquisition depends entirely on private connections and auction opportunities.
