The Richard Mille RM 27-01 is the second horological collaboration between the Swiss-French manufacture and tennis legend Rafael Nadal, and it pushed the boundaries of what a mechanical tourbillon watch could physically be. The case is constructed entirely from Carbon TPT — a proprietary material produced by layering carbon filaments at alternating 45-degree angles then impregnating them with resin — resulting in a structure of extraordinary rigidity-to-weight ratio. The movement itself, caliber RM27-01, features a tourbillon regulator suspended on a cable system rated to withstand shocks exceeding 5,000 Gs, specifically engineered for the violent wrist dynamics of professional tennis. The Qatar Edition distinguishes itself from the standard RM 27-01 production run through its maroon inner bezel and winding crown — a direct chromatic reference to the deep burgundy-and-white of the Qatari national flag. These country-specific commissions from Richard Mille are never offered through conventional retail and exist outside normal production allocations, cementing their status as pure collector and diplomatic objects rather than commercial product.

Sheikh Joaan is no casual watch wearer. As one of the most influential figures in global sport administration — overseeing Qatar's increasingly dominant presence on the international Olympic and sporting stage — his choice of timepiece carries a deliberate message. Wearing the Qatar Edition RM 27-01 at a moment of national sporting pride reads as considered, not incidental.

The standard Richard Mille RM 27-01 carried a retail price in the region of $690,000 at launch, and grey-market values have moved well beyond that figure given extreme scarcity. The Qatar Edition, as a one-off or micro-series diplomatic commission, has no meaningful secondary market price discovery — its value is effectively what its owner decides it is.
