The British singer was photographed wearing the Richard Mille RM27-03 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal, a 50-piece limited edition that represents one of the most technically extreme wristwatches ever brought to market.

The RM27-03 was introduced in 2017 as the third chapter in Richard Mille's long-running collaboration with tennis champion Rafael Nadal. Its core engineering achievement is a hand-wound tourbillon movement — Calibre RM27-03 — built to resist shock forces of up to 10,000 Gs, a figure verified through independent laboratory testing and, more compellingly, through Nadal wearing the watch during competitive play on the ATP tour. The movement is suspended within the case via a cable tensioning system using braided steel wires just 0.35 mm in diameter, effectively floating the calibre to absorb impact. Power reserve sits at approximately 70 hours.

The case itself is a material showcase. Richard Mille constructs the RM27-03 from Carbon TPT and Quartz TPT — layered composite materials developed in partnership with North Thin Ply Technology, the same supplier used in America's Cup yacht racing. Each layer of Carbon TPT measures just 45 microns. The result is a case that weighs a reported 19 grams complete with strap, making the RM27-03 among the lightest mechanical tourbillons ever produced. Dimensions come in at 47.77 mm × 39.94 mm, wearing large but imperceptibly light.

With production capped at 50 numbered examples, the RM27-03 occupies a tier that even seasoned Richard Mille collectors rarely access. Allocation was tightly controlled through the brand's authorised dealer network, and examples seldom surface on the secondary market. The UK list price of £560,000 already positioned it among the most expensive watches Richard Mille has offered; grey market premiums push realized prices substantially higher when pieces do trade.

Sheeran has built one of the more serious watch collections in contemporary music, with Richard Mille references appearing repeatedly across his public appearances. His choice of the RM27-03 signals genuine collector intent — this is not a watch acquired for visibility alone, but one that demands knowledge, access, and considerable financial commitment to obtain.
