The steel 5990/1A in particular has become fiercely desirable; Patek Philippe's allocation policies mean authorised dealers rarely stock one, and grey-market premiums have held stubbornly above retail for years. Collectors regard it as the thinking person's alternative to the more visually dominant 5980 chronograph.

Schmeichel has long demonstrated an appetite for serious horology beyond the footballer's usual defaults. The son of Manchester United and Denmark legend Peter Schmeichel, Kasper built his own legacy with Leicester City's improbable 2015-16 Premier League title win. A man accustomed to performing under exceptional pressure, choosing a reference that demands respect on its own merits rather than purely on name recognition feels entirely consistent.

At UK retail the Nautilus 5990/1A is listed at approximately £38,000, placing it at the upper tier of the steel sports watch market. On the grey market, demand consistently pushes transaction prices well above that figure, reflecting the chronic supply-demand imbalance that defines the current Patek Philippe market.
