Basketball player Devin Booker spotted wearing a Cartier

Devin Booker was photographed leaving an arena event wearing one of the most architecturally distinctive watches produced in the 21st century: the Cartier Privé Tank Asymétrique in 18k rose gold, reference WGTA0043, limited to 100 examples globally. The slate-grey sunray dial, blue alligator strap, and warm rose gold case were immediately identifiable against the NBA All-Star's all-black streetwear look.
First conceived by Louis Cartier in 1936, the Tank Asymétrique — also called the Parallélogramme or Losange in period documentation — broke every convention of watch design by rotating the entire case, dial, and movement architecture 30 degrees from vertical. The result is a parallelogram-shaped case where the crown sits at the upper right corner rather than the standard 3 o'clock position, and Arabic numerals appear to climb diagonally across the smoky dial. The 2020 Cartier Privé re-edition faithfully reproduces this geometry in an 18k rose gold case housing the hand-wound Calibre 9619 MC, offering a 38-hour power reserve through a movement that had to be engineered specifically to fit the tilted architecture.
Within the collector community, the Cartier Privé series occupies a rarefied tier. Each annual release revisits a historically significant Tank variant in strict limited quantities — the Asymétrique's run of 100 pieces places it among the most constrained. Serious Cartier collectors consider the Asymétrique the intellectual apex of the Tank lineage, a piece that demonstrates the brand's artistic ambitions extend well beyond the rectangular Santos or the classic Tank Louis Cartier.
Booker, long established as one of the NBA's more considered watch collectors, has been spotted in vintage Rolexes and Pateks, but this Cartier choice signals a deeper appreciation for horological history and design provenance over pure market cachet. Choosing the Asymétrique over more commercially obvious luxury references is a collector's move.
At a retail price of $28,800, the watch was already exclusive at launch. On the secondary market, documented sales have climbed toward $60,000 — a premium driven almost entirely by scarcity and the growing global appetite for serious Cartier references among a new generation of collectors, athletes included.
