Draymond Green, four-time NBA champion and one of the league's most outspoken personalities off the court as well as on it, was recently spotted with one of the most talked-about limited editions of the past several years locked to his wrist: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept 'Black Panther' Flying Tourbillon, Reference 26620IO, restricted to a global run of just 250 examples.

The watch is built around AP's caliber 2965, a manually wound flying tourbillon movement that places the tourbillon cage at six o'clock with no bridge obscuring the view — a deliberate architectural choice that echoes the openworked DNA of the Royal Oak Concept line. The case measures 41 mm and is constructed from forged carbon and ceramic, materials that keep the overall weight minimal despite the sculpture sitting on the dial. That sculpture — a crouching Black Panther figure rendered in hand-applied layers of black gold — was produced in collaboration with Marvel and required AP's metiers d'art team to develop entirely new techniques for working at such a small scale with such fine detail. Power reserve stands at approximately 65 hours.

The Royal Oak Concept sub-family has always occupied the experimental, forward-looking corner of AP's catalog, introduced in 2002 as a platform to showcase complications and materials that would be disruptive for the mainline Royal Oak. The Black Panther edition, released in 2021 as a follow-up to the 2021 Spider-Man version (Ref. 26620CE, limited to 250 pieces in the same run structure), elevated the concept by fusing haute horlogerie with pop-culture iconography in a way that drew both traditional collectors and an entirely new audience to the brand.

For the collector community, the significance of the Ref. 26620IO is straightforward: 250 pieces globally, a flying tourbillon, hand-crafted dial sculpture, and a cultural collaboration that generated genuine mainstream coverage. Secondary market demand materialized immediately at release and has not softened. Green, known for his luxury watch enthusiasm and a collection that skews toward statement pieces, is an appropriate steward — the watch's assertive presence suits his on-court identity.

At UK list price of approximately £120,000 (roughly $150,000 USD at prevailing rates at launch), the Black Panther Flying Tourbillon was never an accessible proposition. On the grey market, confirmed sales have tracked meaningfully above retail, reflecting the combination of tight allocation, tourbillon complication, and the enduring appetite for the Marvel AP pieces among both watch and pop-culture collectors.
