About Christopher Paul O'Neill’s watch collection

Christopher Paul O'Neill is an American-born entrepreneur who entered public life following his 2013 marriage to Princess Madeleine of Sweden, the youngest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf. Raised in the United States, O'Neill built his career in private equity and finance before relocating to Europe. He and Princess Madeleine have three children — Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas, and Princess Adrienne — and the family has divided their time between the United States and Sweden. Although O'Neill has chosen not to hold a formal Swedish royal title, he remains a recognizable figure in royal and high-society circles on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Christopher Paul O'Neill watch collection, as far as our cameras have been able to document, reflects the taste of someone who knows exactly what they are looking at. O'Neill has been photographed wearing a vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6241 in stainless steel, fitted with an exotic dial configuration known among collectors as the Paul Newman dial. The ref. 6241 was produced from around 1966 and represents an evolution of the original Daytona ref. 6239 that launched the Daytona name in 1963. Both references share the same manual-wind Valjoux-based movement and the same overall case architecture, but the 6241 introduced a glossy black bezel insert in place of the earlier engraved metal bezel, giving it a distinctly different look on the wrist.

Choosing a Paul Newman-dialed Daytona is not a casual decision. These dials — characterized by their Art Deco-style subsidiary registers and contrasting color schemes — command significant premiums in the vintage market and require genuine collector knowledge to source in honest, unrestored condition. For O'Neill, whose professional background centers on evaluating assets and understanding value, the choice carries a logic beyond aesthetics. It is the kind of watch that rewards the people in the room who recognize it.
