Entrepreneur Steven Zhang spotted wearing Patek Philippe

Steven Zhang, chairman of Serie A club Inter Milan and son of Suning Commerce Group founder Zhang Jindong, was photographed celebrating his birthday wearing one of the most coveted integrated-bracelet watches in current production: the Patek Philippe Nautilus Moonphase in 18K rose gold, reference 5712/1R.

The 5712/1R measures 40mm in rose gold and runs on the hand-wound Calibre 240 PS IRM C LU — a micro-rotor movement that accommodates a power reserve indicator, a date display at 3 o'clock, and Patek's signature moonphase at 6 o'clock within a remarkably slim 8.9mm profile. That moonphase mechanism is the headline complication: its astronomical accuracy means it requires a single-day correction only once every 122 years. The sector-dial layout, executed in a warm chocolate gradient typical of the 5712 reference family, suits the rose gold case and bracelet with notable coherence.

The Nautilus 5712 was introduced in 2006 as an evolution of the original Nautilus 3700, itself launched in 1976 to Gerald Genta's brief for a luxury sport watch in steel. The addition of complications to the Nautilus line-up was a deliberate repositioning, signalling that the sports-case aesthetic could carry dress-watch horological ambition. The 1R suffix denotes the full rose gold configuration — bracelet and case — distinguishing it from the steel 5712/1A and the two-tone 5712/1AR variants. Among collectors, the rose gold execution is considered the most formal and least understated member of the 5712 family, which has driven strong secondary-market premiums.

Zhang, born in 1991, has cultivated a visible interest in serious watchmaking. His choice of the 5712/1R — rather than the more streetwear-adjacent Nautilus 5711 — reflects a collector sensibility oriented toward complication over iconography, a distinction that matters within watch circles even if it is invisible to the casual observer.

At retail, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712/1R carries a list price of approximately $81,500. On the grey market, demand has pushed values to roughly $207,000, representing a premium of more than 150 percent over retail — a testament to Patek Philippe's sustained production discipline and the enduring appetite for the Nautilus family in precious metal configurations.
