Entrepreneur Karim Haddad spotted wearing a Richard Mille

Karim Haddad, the entrepreneur and known connoisseur of high-complication horology, was recently spotted on the wrist with one of the most visually arresting objects in contemporary watchmaking: the Aet Remould A011 Abu Dhabi Special Edition, a five-piece limited re-casing of the Richard Mille RM011 flyback chronograph in a full sapphire crystal case stretching 50mm across the wrist.

The original Richard Mille RM011 — formally the RM011 Felipe Massa — is one of the maison's most storied references. Introduced in 2007 as a tribute to the Formula 1 driver, it houses a skeletonized automatic flyback chronograph movement with annual calendar and GMT function. The caliber features a column wheel, vertical clutch, and free-sprung balance, all housed in a tonneau-shaped case that became one of Richard Mille's defining silhouettes. At roughly 50mm in length, the RM011 already commands attention; when that case is rendered entirely in sapphire crystal, the effect is something else entirely.

Aet Remould, the specialist aftermarket atelier known for re-casing prestigious movements in exotic materials, has applied its sapphire case construction to this Abu Dhabi-dedicated edition. The result is a 360-degree window into the movement, the skeletonized architecture floating in apparent mid-air against the wrist. The three chronograph subdials are rendered in what the house calls 'Abu Dhabi Blue' — also referred to as the 'speed color', a reference to the UAE capital's deep association with motorsport through the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit. Transparent hour markers complete the dial, reinforcing the watch's commitment to visual lightness.

With a production run of just five pieces, the A011 Abu Dhabi Special Edition occupies a category beyond standard collector rarity. It is a bespoke object, closer in concept to wearable sculpture than production watchmaking. Pieces like this circulate almost exclusively through private channels, and their owners tend to be collectors who have moved well past brand recognition into the territory of one-of-kind horological provenance.

Haddad's choice to wear this piece publicly is noteworthy. Sapphire-cased watches of this complexity are fragile by conventional standards and demand a certain confidence to wear casually. On the grey market, comparable Aet Remould sapphire commissions on Richard Mille movements have traded privately in ranges that reflect both the underlying RM value and the extreme scarcity of the re-casing work — making any public sighting a genuine event for serious collectors.
