The Patek Philippe ref. 5101P is one of the manufacture's most technically ambitious dress watches. It is rare, technically serious, and resolutely un-showboating — qualities that make it deeply appealing to experienced collectors who have moved beyond novelty. The reference rarely appears at auction, and when it does, it commands serious attention. Its combination of a meaningful power reserve, a high-complication regulator, and a dress-watch format in platinum places it in a category occupied by very few references in the entire history of Swiss watchmaking.

Giorgio Armani, whose creative philosophy has always centred on subtracting the superfluous, makes a fitting custodian for a watch that hides its greatest achievement from view.
