The King Power generation represents Hublot at its most architecturally aggressive. The King Power platform launched in the mid-2000s as the successor to the original Big Bang and quickly became Hublot's canvas for regional and thematic limited editions. The Costa Smeralda version taps into the brand's close association with Mediterranean luxury culture — the Aga Khan developed the Costa Smeralda resort in the 1960s, and Hublot's clientele overlaps considerably with the yachting and villa-owning crowd that frequents Porto Cervo each summer. A production run of 100 pieces reinforces the exclusivity appropriate to that setting.

Falcao's relationship with Hublot has been longstanding and well-documented. The brand historically recruited footballers with global commercial footprints, and the Colombian striker — a Champions League and Europa League winner, one of the most technically refined centre-forwards of his generation — fits that profile precisely. Wearing a regionally specific, ultra-limited piece rather than a mainline Big Bang suggests either genuine collector instinct or a well-considered brand gifting decision.

On the secondary market, ultra-limited King Power editions with regional provenance hold their value reasonably well given the small production numbers, though the King Power's considerable size has tempered broader collector enthusiasm in an era that has trended toward restraint. With a UK list price of £35,500, the Costa Smeralda sat firmly in premium territory — a number that reflects both the movement quality and the scarcity premium baked into the edition from launch.
