Royal Khalifa Bin Hamad spotted wearing Richard Mille

Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad, known publicly by his Instagram handle @khk and recognized as one of the Gulf region's most serious watch collectors, was photographed wearing the Richard Mille RM 52-06 'Mask' Tourbillon in Blue Quartz TPT — a piece limited to just 18 examples worldwide. For a watch of this rarity, a royal wrist is perhaps the only fitting stage.

The Richard Mille RM 52-06 belongs to the brand's Skull collection, first introduced with the RM 052 in 2012. Where earlier skull models rendered the motif in precious metals, the RM 52-06 takes a more architecturally complex approach: the manually wound tourbillon movement — Caliber RM52-06 — is built around a three-dimensional skull structure that doubles as the watch's baseplate architecture. The movement operates at 21,600 vph with a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. The case measures 50mm × 42.7mm and is water-resistant to 50 meters. The Blue Quartz TPT case material is produced by NTPT, Richard Mille's long-standing composite supplier, and involves over 600 layers of quartz filament laid at 45-degree angles before resin infusion and curing — each resulting in a case surface that is entirely unique.

From a collector's standpoint, the RM 52-06 occupies a specific and unapologetic niche. It is not a watch for the restrained buyer. At an edition size of 18 pieces — almost certainly tied to the symbolic resonance of the number in Islamic tradition — this is one of the tightest production runs Richard Mille has sanctioned for any skull reference. That scarcity, combined with the technical complexity of the movement construction, gives the piece immediate trophy status in serious collections.

Sheikh Khalifa's taste in watches has been well documented across social media, where he regularly posts wrist shots of rare Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Richard Mille references. His appearance in the RM 52-06 is consistent with a collector profile that gravitates toward limited, technically distinguished pieces rather than purely decorative ones.

The UK list price is reported at £520,000, translating to roughly $660,000 USD at current exchange rates. On the secondary market, examples of the RM 52-06 — when they surface at all — command significant premiums over retail given the 18-piece ceiling. Grey market values are difficult to pin with precision but consistently exceed list price, placing this watch firmly in the upper tier of Richard Mille's already stratospheric secondary market.
