Canelo Álvarez stepped onto the GQ Mexico stage to collect the Athlete of the Year award with something arguably as trophy-worthy on his wrist: the Richard Mille RM 67-02 in White Quartz TPT, developed in partnership with French alpine skiing champion Alexis Pinturault. The setting — one of Mexico's most prominent sports culture moments — gave the watch exactly the kind of high-visibility platform Richard Mille's ambassador strategy is built around.

The RM 67-02 represents one of Richard Mille's most technically demanding cases. White Quartz TPT is manufactured by robot-controlled filament winding, layering more than 600 individual quartz fiber sheets at precisely calculated angles before infusion with a white-pigmented resin matrix. The result is a material that is simultaneously lighter than titanium, harder than most ceramics under lateral stress, and visually distinctive thanks to the natural marbling effect — no two cases are identical. The case measures 38.7 mm × 47.52 mm with a thickness of just 7.75 mm, housing the in-house Calibre CRMA7, an automatic movement with a variable geometry rotor, running at 28,800 vph with a 50-hour power reserve.

The Alexis Pinturault collaboration is not merely cosmetic. Pinturault worked directly with Richard Mille's engineers to refine the ergonomic fit for athletes in dynamic, high-G environments — the asymmetric curved case and extended horn geometry were validated through actual training conditions on Alpine courses. It is a working brief, not a marketing exercise.

For collectors, the RM 67-02 White Quartz TPT Pinturault occupies a specific tier within the RM 67 family. It carries the rarity premium of a named-athlete TPT variant combined with the desirability of White Quartz, one of the more visually arresting TPT colorways. The grey market reflects this: list price sits at approximately $187,000, while current secondary market valuations have climbed to around $435,000 — a premium above retail that underscores sustained collector demand.

Canelo Álvarez has maintained one of boxing's most serious Richard Mille collections over the years, regularly appearing at fights and public events with pieces from the manufacture. Accepting a major athletic honor while wearing a watch born from another elite athlete's brief is, in context, a coherent choice rather than a coincidence.
